Simone Inzaghi is hungry to end the season with a record-breaking points total for Inter Milan, eclipsing that of Roberto Mancini.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the coach was keen to emphasize the possibility of the record in a speech to his players.

Inter moved onto 89 points with their victory against Torino this afternoon.

The Nerazzurri have twelve points left to play for in their final four matches of the season.

Therefore, Inter could theoretically finish the season with 101 points if they are to win all four of their remaining matches for the campaign – against Sassuolo, Hellas Verona, Frosinone, and Lazio.

Doing so will not be easy by any means.

But Inter showed with their performance against Torino that they are not ready to let their level drop just because they have mathematically clinched the Serie A title.

And the reason for that is partly that, even if there are no more trophies to fight for, there is still a place in the record books.

Simone Inzaghi Hungry To Break Inter Points Total Record Under Roberto Mancini

Inter cannot, mathematically, break the record for most points in a single Serie A campaign.

That record belongs to Juventus. The Bianconeri amassed a whopping 102 points in the 2013-14 campaign.

Inter can however get to within one point of that total.

And certainly becoming the second team ever to take more than a hundred points in a single season would be a feat on its own.

But there is another important record that Inter could break.

If the Nerazzurri are to take nine points from their remaining matches of the season, they would hit 98 points.

To date, the most points that Inter have taken in a single season came in the 2006-07 campaign.

That came with Roberto Mancini as coach. Inter took a total of 97 points that campaign.

Therefore, breaking that record is still very much on the table for the Nerazzurri.
